Bucknell Athletic Trainer Selected for Summer Olympic Training Program

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell University assistant athletic trainer John Barrett has been chosen as a volunteer athletic trainer with the United States Olympic Committee for a two-week period throughout the month of June. Barrett was one of approximately 90 athletic trainers selected to participate in the program out of several thousand applicants. To be eligible for selection, the individual must have at least five years professional experience and pass an extensive screening process.
Barrett, an athletic trainer at Bucknell for the past three years, was selected by the United States Olympic Committee Division of Sports Medicine to serve as a volunteer athletic trainer at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo., from June 10-25. During his time at the training center, Barrett has been working with the Men's Junior National Gymnastics team, resident members of the Men's National Gymnastics Team, Members of the National Judo Team, the National Tae Kwon Do Team, and the National Trampoline team. In addition, he has helped individual members of other teams, including 2002 Olympic Winter Games gold medallist speed skater, Apolo Anton Ohno.
The primary trainer for women's soccer, women's basketball, women's tennis, softball and women's crew at Bucknell, Barrett is also in charge of the student-trainer program for the Department of Athletic Training.
