Bison Women's Water Polo Team and Players Receive All-Academic Honors

LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell women's water polo team placed nine student-athletes on the American Water Polo Coaches Association All-Academic team for the 2002 season. The association acknowledges all water polo players who achieve a cumulative grade point average within the range of 3.2 - 4.0, on a 4.0 scale, and who are starters or significant reserves.
In addition, the association recognizes those institutions whose combined team GPA is over 2.75. Bucknell was honored as one of the top 10 teams with a cumulative GPA of 3.22, giving the school the 10th-highest average.
One Bucknell athlete, senior co-captain Brooke Rea (Canandaigua, N.Y./Los Altos), was listed under the "Outstanding Achievement" category, which recognizes those student-athletes with a GPA between 3.71 and 4.00. Rea boasted the fourth-best grade-point-average among those honored with a 3.90 as an English major.
Four Bucknell players from head coach John Zeigler's squad were listed under the category of "Superior Achievement," having established a GPA between 3.41 and 3.70. Senior Barbara Morgan (Toms River, N.J./Toms River) earned her superior honor with a 3.63 in English. Freshmen Eileen Ketterer (Altamonte Springs, Fla./Lyman), Larissa Brown (Tacoma, Wash./Curtis Senior) and Cody Keffer (Berkeley, Calif./Berkeley) each earned a spot on the list in their first year with the team. Ketterer posted a 3.58 as an environmental studies major, while Brown earned a 3.54, and Keffer recorded a 3.50 GPA.
Four other Bison were listed in the "Excellent Achievement" category with a GPA in the range of 3.2 - 3.4. Freshman Meg Blitzer (Durham, N.H./Phillips Academy) headlined this group, posting a 3.37 grade point average as an animal behavior major. Joining Blitzer in the excellent group were senior co-captain Adrienne Schober (Landisville, Pa./Clearlake), and sophomores Kelly Hofstetter (Scotts Valley, Calif./Harbor) and Katelyn Webber (Southampton, Mass./Williston Northampton School). Schober graduated with a 3.34 GPA in psychology, while Hofstetter posted a 3.31 in sociology and Webber earned a 3.27 in elementary education.
Bucknell finished its 2002 season with a 14-19 overall record. The Bison were 2-4 in the Collegiate Water Polo Association's Southern Division and finished fifth at the conference tournament, advancing to the Eastern Championship for the second time in four years.
