Women's Varsity Four Wins Again at Mid-Atlantic Regional

FAIRFAX, Va. - Led by the women's varsity four, the Bucknell men's and women's crew teams had yet another solid outing Sunday afternoon at the Mid-Atlantic Regional Championships at the Occoquan Reservoir.
Lisa Baranik, Julie Engel, Rebecca Newman, Jill Harrington and coxswain Nicole Tomlin rowed the Bison to victory, beating out 11 other boats for their fifth gold over the last six regattas.
Also coming out on top was the women's novice eight, which placed first among 10 boats and won by a tenth of a second. The crew of coxswain Kyra Harris, Tracy Menkowski, Emily Frost, Elizabeth Marut, Elizabeth Ayerle, Diana Scheerbaum, Jennifer Prunoske, Jocelyn Dautel and Kara Schroepfer picked up its second consecutive gold.
The women's varsity pair of Emily Smith and Joan Wendler also fared well and finished second out of six boats, losing only to Robert Morris. In addition, the women's novice four took fifth among 15 boats.
For the men's team, the novice four turned in an impressive showing, placing fifth out of 17. The men's novice lightweight eight came in third out of seven boats, while the men's varsity four took sixth of 11. Rounding out the Bison men's contingent was the men's lightweight four, which came in seventh among nine boats.
Both teams return to the water on May 10-11 at the Dad Vail Championships, the largest collegiate regatta in the United States, held on the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia.
