Bucknell Men's Water Polo Captains Named for 2002 Season

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell head men's water polo coach John Zeigler announced that seniors Daniel Lonnerdal (Davis, Calif./Davis), Chris Saxton (Palo Alto, Calif./Palo Alto) and Adam Yerkes (Orlando, Fla./Winter Park) have been elected tri-captains for the 2002 season.
Lonnerdal is a utility player for the Bison, starting every one of the 28 games he played in last season. He had his best offensive output a year ago, finishing fourth on the team in points with a career-high 42. His 19 scores matched his career-best and his 23 assists bested his old high of 12 from his freshman season. In addition, Lonnerdal continued his defensive dominance, ending the year third on the team in steals with 36.
Saxton started all 30 games a year ago, registering 20 goals and 16 assists for 36 points. Over the course of his career, he has compiled 55 goals and 46 assists to be one of only two active players to pass the century mark for points at 101. This driver proved versatile last season, recording 13 steals, six ejections drawn, and winning three of the six sprints he swam.
Yerkes has been a spot starter for the past two years, getting the nod in seven of 30 games last season. A driver, he finished tied for sixth on the squad with 29 points on career-best 13 goals and 16 assists. Yerkes also showed a marked improvement in his defensive skills, recording a career-high 22 steals last season, while registering 10 ejections drawn.
The 2001 men's water polo team finished the season 13-17 overall and 4-4 in the Southern Division Conference. The Bison picked up third place in the conference and earned a seventh place finish at Eastern Championships.
