LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell seniors Gregg Farmery, Eric Fishman and Larry Scheetz have been named to the 2002 Verizon Academic All-District II Baseball Teams, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Farmery and Fishman were first-team honorees, and Scheetz captured a spot on the second team.
Farmery and Fishman are now eligible for national Academic All-America recognition. The team will be voted on later this month and announced on Tuesday, June 4.
A chemical engineering major with a 3.43 grade-point average, Farmery gained Academic All-District honors for the second year in a row. The right-handed relief pitcher was named to the Verizon Academic All-District Second Team in 2001.
This season, Farmery notched a league-leading six saves for the Bison and became Bucknell's all-time leader in both saves (14) and appearances (72). He finished the year 4-4 with a team-low 2.48 ERA in 19 appearances and 29 innings pitched, and was named to the All-Patriot League Second Team. Farmery also tied the Patriot League career record for saves this year.
Farmery is a three-time member of the Bucknell Dean's List, as well as a three-time selection to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll. He also serves on the Bucknell Student Athletic Advisory Committee. At the Bucknell Senior Athletic Awards Banquet, he received the Edward W. Pangburn Award, given to a Bucknell senior who exemplifies sportsmanship, fellowship and contribution to the University.
A political science major with a 3.58 grade-point average, Fishman earned Academic All-District recognition for the first time. He enjoyed the most productive season of his collegiate career in 2002, and was an All-Patriot League First Team selection. Thrust into the team's No. 3 spot in the batting order, the right fielder provided the Bison with a consistent threat at the plate, as he led the team in practically every offensive category. Fishman topped the Bison and set career-highs in batting average (.349), hits (60), runs (34), home runs (six) and stolen bases (17). He is currently ranked seventh in the league in batting and is listed among the league-leaders in nine other categories. Fishman leads the league in total bases (104), doubles (14) and slugging percentage (.605).
Off the diamond, Fishman is a member of Pi Sigma Alpha (National Political Science Honor Society) and has been named to Bucknell's Dean's List on six occasions. He has also earned a spot on the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll during the first three years of his collegiate career. In addition, Fishman has been an active member of the Bucknell Athletes Against Drugs and Alcohol.
Also a first-time Academic All-District honoree, Scheetz is an economics major with a 3.68 grade-point average. He was named to the All-Patriot League First Team after putting together his finest overall season in 2002. Scheetz started all 50 games for Bucknell at shortstop in 2002 and anchored the Bison infield, as he made just eight errors in 207 chances for a superb .961 fielding percentage. At the plate, Scheetz was the Bison's second-leading hitter with a career-high .275 batting average. He also established single-season career-highs in hits (46), doubles (six), triples (two), home runs (two) and RBI's (20).
Scheetz was named to the Bucknell Dean's List every semester of his collegiate career, and is a three-time member of the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll. He also participates in Mortar Board (National College Honor Society), and is a member of Bucknell's Committee on Athletics. At the Bucknell Senior Athletic Awards Banquet, he received the Robert A.
