LEWISBURG, Pa. -- Bucknell senior Brooke Rea and freshman Cody Keffer have received the Subway Athlete of the Month Award for the month of March in water polo.
The award was announced at the monthly Bucknell Women's Sports Luncheon, held Monday, April 1. Sponsored by Lewisburg Subway, the luncheon recognizes one outstanding student-athlete from each Bucknell women's sport in season at that time. The other winners for the month of March, as selected by their respective coaches, were senior Kelly Dugan in softball, senior Kelly McConnell in track & field, sophomore Samantha Berthod in tennis and junior Nicole Kallis in lacrosse.
Rea, the team's third-leading scorer with 38 points (22 goals, 16 assists), set a pair of records for the Bison during the Villanova Invitational on March 23. A 2-meter player, Rea scored 10 goals for the Bison over three games during the invitational, and tied the Bucknell record for goals in one game with six in a 10-8 loss to Villanova. She also established the BU all-time goals record as she scored her 133rd career tally in an 11-2 win against Queens.
Keffer has made an immediate impact for the Bison as a 2-meter player, and leads the team in scoring with 44 points on 32 goals and 12 assists. A starter in all 18 games for the Bison, Keffer scored a season-high four goals in the Bison's 10-9 to Redlands, the top-ranked team in Division III, on March 15.
Bucknell is 6-12 overall and will be in action on Friday and Saturday, when Bison host George Washington, Villanova and Princeton for a set of Southern Division League Games in Freas-Rooke Pool. The games mark the final collegiate competition ever in the pool.
