Towson Slugs 17 Hits in 19-9 Win Over Bison Baseball

TOWSON, Md. - Towson University jumped out to a 13-1 lead after two innings en route to a 19-9 non-league victory over Bucknell Tuesday afternoon at Schuerholz Park.
Towson (12-11-1) won its third game of the row, while Bucknell (10-18-0) lost for the sixth time in its last seven games.
The Tigers' 19 runs and 17 hits were the most the Bucknell pitching staff has allowed in one game all season. Towson hit five home runs and two doubles for the game.
Kevin Miller made his first appearance of the season, but lasted just two-thirds of an inning. Casey Stidham hit a grand slam off Miller to highlight a six-run first for Towson. Bucknell scored its first run in the top of the second when Pete Wolf singled home Ben Stoll, who hit a one-out double.
Towson added seven more runs in the second as Gregg Davies hit a leadoff solo home run to left. Later in the inning, he hit a two-run triple to make it 13-1.
The Bison put a dent into the Tigers' lead with a four-run third. Chris Cipolloni led off with a single, and Larry Scheetz was hit with a pitch two batters later. Eric Fishman followed up with a three-run homer, his third of the season. With two outs, Stoll reached on an error and scored two batters later on a throwing error following a single by Wolf.
In the fourth inning Davies hit his second home run of the game, a three-run shot that gave Towson a 16-5 lead.
Bucknell scored its sixth run of the game in the eighth when Wolf hit his first career home run, a two-out solo shot. The Bison also pushed three runs across in the ninth. Following another leadoff single by Cipolloni, Brian Hirschberg delivered his first career home run. Back-to-back doubles by Scheetz and Stoll set the final score.
Wolf led all of the Bucknell hitters with three hits.
Miller (0-1) took the loss and gave up six runs on three hits, two walks and a hit batsman. Cory Nadler threw one inning and allowed five runs on five hits and two walks, and Eric Steinbach was touched for four runs on four hits and one walk. Tim Peacock surrendered two runs, two hits and a walk, while Jay Weiner struck out two in one scoreless inning of work. Nick Yaeger allowed two runs on three hits.
The Bison host Binghamton at 3 p.m. tomorrow in another non-league contest.
