Bucknell Women's Tennis Wins 6-3 at Bloomsburg

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. - Despite holding a 24-7 lead in the history of the series with Bloomsburg, the Bucknell women's tennis team had not beaten the Huskies in the last four attempts. That all changed on Wednesday, April 18, when the Bison squad traveled to Bloomsburg to end the 2001-02 season with a 6-3 win over the host team.
Playing in a nine-point format, the Division II scoring method, the Orange and Blue picked up points in two of three doubles matches, and four of six singles bouts. In doubles play, freshmen Nadezda Curcic and Ashley Diers concluded their rookie season with an 8-5 win at No. 2 over Beth Fulton and Miranda Campbell. BU's other doubles point came from the duo of senior Kristin Inglis and freshman Tanya Sichko. The two teamed up at No. 3 so win 8-6 over Julianne Bramante and Larissa Bench.
In singles action, Curcic, Diers and Sichko were all winners again, while sophomore Samantha Berthod came in at No. 6 with a victory. Curcic defeated the Huskies' Katie Kochera at No. 2, 6-2, 6-0, while Diers came from behind to win at No. 3 over Fulton, 5-7, 7-5 (10-6). Sichko ended her freshman campaign with her seventh-straight singles victory in a 7-5, 6-4 win over Campbell at No. 5. Berthod rounded out the Bison scoring with a convincing 6-2, 6-1 win over Bench at the sixth flight.
Bucknell concludes the year with a 12-9 overall record.
