EASTON, Pa. - The Bucknell softball team picked up a pair of wins over league foe Lafayette on Sunday, April 14, at Metzgar Field. The Bison won game one, 11-0, behind an eight-run effort in the fifth inning, before taking game two, 5-2. Bucknell improved to 10-22 overall and 4-8 in Patriot League play.
In the opener, the Orange and Blue recorded 11 hits in the first four innings of play on its way to a 3-0 lead. A Lafayette pitching change in the fifth inning failed to quiet the Bison, who recorded eight runs in the fifth inning including a grand-slam home run from sophomore Angela Stackhouse.
Stackhouse led Bucknell on 4-of-4 hitting from the plate including five RBI while senior Barb Wood was 2-of-3 from the plate with two RBI on the day. Bucknell's Lauren Box earned the win on the mound with two strikeouts.
Lafayette's Jackie Fitzgerald started on the mound and fanned four batters while reliever Amy Magos recorded two strikeouts versus the Bison.
In game two, Bucknell came out swinging to score three runs in the first inning including a two-run homer from Stackhouse and a solo home run from senior Jenna Demetriades. Stackhouse struck again in the third inning with an RBI single to center field that allowed senior Lauren Titus to score for a 4-0 lead. A Lafayette wild pitch allowed Wood to cross the plate for a 5-0 Bucknell advantage.
Lafayette rallied in the bottom of the fifth inning on a two-run homer from Kelly Wise, the Leopards only hit of the game, but it was not enough as Bucknell held on for the 5-2 win.
Junior Brandi Porter earned the win on the mound, throwing her second career one-hitter while striking out nine batters. Lafayette reliever Magos fanned four batters in the final five innings.
Bucknell returns to action on Tuesday when it travels to Mount St. Mary's for a doubleheader starting at 3 p.m.
