LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell women's tennis team's hopes of extending its season to the Patriot League playoffs got smaller on Wednesday afternoon, as the Bison fell to visiting Lehigh, 5-2, to move to 0-4 in conference action. The squad is 9-8 overall.
The Orange and Blue got things started on a strong note, capturing the doubles point with victories at No. 2 and No. 3. Freshmen Nadezda Curcic and Ashley Diers teamed up to defeat Renee Kaplan and Meg Dencker 8-2 at the second spot. Senior Kristin Inglis and sophomore Tanya Sichko then clinched the doubles point with an 8-5 win over Jamie Faas and Kristen Mulstay at No. 3.
The Mountain Hawks dominated in singles play, however, claiming five of the six matches. Bucknell's lone singles winner was Sichko, who picked up a 7-5, 1-6 (10-5) victory over Alina Kors at No. 5. Sophomore Samantha Berthod nearly earned the Bison another point in singles play with a tough 1-6, 7-6 (7-5), 6-2 loss to Andrea Scott at No. 6.
Bucknell falls to 9-8 overall and 0-4 in the Patriot League. The Orange and Blue will host conference rival Lafayette at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 11.
