BU Women's Water Polo Makes Defensive Stand in Win Over Queens

VILLANOVA, Pa. - The Bucknell women's water polo team got back on the winning side in grand fashion, putting together offense and defense in a 12-2 victory over Queens in the final game of the Villanova Invitational on Saturday, March 23. With a team-best three goals in the contest, senior Brooke Rea became Bucknell's all-time leading goal scorer with 133 career tallies.
The Orange and Blue jumped out to an early 2-0 lead after one quarter. The score stood at 6-2 at halftime after a four-goal performance by the Bison in the second stanza. Bucknell exploded for six goals in the second half, including five in the third quarter, while holding Queens scoreless the rest of the game for the 12-2 victory.
In addition to scoring a season-high 12 goals as a team, the squad also recorded a season-best 18 steals in a solid defensive effort.
Rea, who entered the game needing three goals to break the school mark, recorded the record-setting score during Bucknell's five-goal third quarter.
Junior goalkeeper Lindsay Chesterfield made five saves in the contest.
Bucknell improves to 6-12 on the season and finishes the weekend with a 1-2 mark after dropping its first two games to Villanova, 10-8, and Iona, 10-4. The Orange and Blue are in action again on April 5-6 when they host the final games ever in Freas-Rooke pool. The Bison host the Southern Division League Games with George Washington, Villanova and Princeton.
