LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell junior Boakai Lalugba was named to the All-Tournament Team following the conclusion of the Patriot League Tournament last Friday.
Lalugba was an all-tournament selection for the second straight year. He is only the second player in league history to be voted to the all-tournament team two years in a row without playing in the championship game in either year. Army's Mark Lueking also accomplished the feat in 1994 and 1995.
Lalugba was terrific in Bucknell's 70-59 opening-round win over Army, logging 20 points and 13 rebounds. He then added 14 points in a 64-57 loss to Holy Cross in the semifinals. Lalugba made 11 of 17 (.647) shots from the field and 12 of 15 (.800) from the free throw line in the two games.
The 6'6" forward averaged 14.9 points and 7.1 rebounds per game for a Bison squad that finished 13-16 overall and 8-6 in Patriot League play in 2001-02. Bucknell was the No. 3 seed in the Patriot League Tournament and advanced to the semifinals for the ninth time in 12 years.
Joining Lalugba on the all-tournament team was Tournament MVP Tim Szatko and Brian Wilson of Holy Cross, and Steven Miles and Patrick Doctor of American. Holy Cross defeated American 58-54 in the championship game and will play No. 1 seed Kansas in the NCAA Tournament.
