Bucknell Track Concludes Day Two of the Armory Collegiate Invitational

NEW YORK - Several of the top athletes on the Bucknell University track & field team competed in day two of the Armory Collegiate Invitational in New York City this afternoon. The remainder of the team participated in the BU Winter Classic in the Gerhard Fieldhouse.
Bucknell's men's and women's team each had four of its athletes compete this afternoon. Senior Michael Euell placed ninth out of 16 runners in the "University B" mile in 4:15.00. Junior Lou Palma took 12th in a time of 4:12.75 in the same race.
Sophomore Thomas Prochillo and senior P.J. Ward each participated in the "University B" 800m run. Prochillo recorded a time of 1:57.74 to place 16th among 36 competitors, while Ward took 31st in 2:00.20.
Senior Kelly McConnell turned in perhaps the top performance for the women's team. McConnell placed fifth in the "University" mile race in 4:55.74, the second-fastest time in school history, and qualified for the ECAC Championships.
Also racing to a personal-best time was senior LaTonya McSwain, who won the "University B" 800m run, consisting of 31 competitors, in 2:16.15.
Seniors Stephanie Bango and Chris Crowe also performed well in their respective events. Bango finished second out of nine runners in the "University" 800m run in 2:09.31, while Crowe came in fifth in a field of 26 in the 3,000m run in a season-best time of 10:11.57
On day one of the invitational yesterday, sophomore Noel Powell, junior Greg Costello and freshman Ryan Newberger competed as individuals in the "University" division of their respective events. Powell placed second among 13 competitors in the long jump with a mark of 23'6 ?", while placing fifth out of 46 runners in the 200m dash in a season-best time of 22.05. Newberger placed 18th out of 44 competitors in the 400m dash in 49.80, his season-best time and the fifth-best all-time at Bucknell. Costello took seventh in a field of 29 harriers in the 3,000m run in 8:23.92.
The men's team also had a distance medley relay compete on day one. Junior Lou Palma, Newberger, sophomore Aaron Hanlon and junior Eric Furst took seventh out of 19 schools in an IC4A-qualifying time of 10:03.78.
On the women's side, freshman Amy Calvo was Bucknell's lone representative on the first day of competition. She placed seventh among 38 competitors in the 400m dash with a 57.40 clocking, the third-fastest time in school history.
