LEWISBURG, Pa. - Freshman Cody Keffer (Berkely, Calif./Berkely) scored two of her game-high three goals in the fourth quarter, leading the Bucknell University women's water polo team to 10-5 triumph over Slippery Rock University in the final game of the Bucknell Invitational this afternoon at Freas-Rooke Pool.
The Bison concluded the invitational with a 2-1 record, and improved to 3-0 against Slippery Rock this season.
After falling behind 2-1 in the first quarter, Bucknell outscored Slippery Rock 3-0 in the second quarter to go ahead 4-2 at halftime. In the third quarter, the Bison used a 3-0 surge over a 20-second span to take a commanding five-goal lead at 7-2 with 3:37 left in the stanza.
The Rock cut the lead to 8-5 with 2:49 left before Keffer halted the rally with two goals in 16 seconds to set the final score.
Junior goalkeeper Lindsay Chesterfield (Kingston, Pa./Wyoming Valley West) posted a season-high 15 saves.
Bucknell improves to 3-4 on the season, and continues its schedule on March 9 with three Collegiate Water Polo Association games at George Washington.
