George Washington Edges Bison Women's Water Polo, 6-3

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Sophomore Kelly Hofstetter (Scotts Valley, Calif./Harbor) scored her team-leading 13th and 14th goals of the season, but it wasn't enough as the Bucknell University women's water polo team dropped a 6-3 decision to George Washington this evening in the Bucknell Invitational.
Bucknell fell to 2-4 with the loss, and will face Slippery Rock tomorrow at 1 p.m. in the final game of the invitational for both teams.
After a scoreless first quarter, George Washington recorded a pair of goals in the second quarter to forge a 2-0 halftime advantage. The Colonials pushed their lead to 3-0 before Hofstetter answered with 3:35 remaining in the third quarter bring the Bison to within two. George Washington retaliated with a pair of tallies over a 1:02 span to go ahead 5-1 with 25 seconds to go in the quarter, but the Bison cut the gap to 5-2 after a goal by freshman Cody Keffer (Berkely, Calif./Berkely) with just 14 seconds left in the stanza.
George Washington increased its lead to 6-2 after finding the back of the net at the 2:42 mark. Hofstetter potted her second goal of the evening with 2:15 left to bring Bucknell to within three at 6-3, but neither side would score the rest of the way.
Bison goalkeeper Lindsay Chesterfield (Kingston, Pa./Wyoming Valley West) stopped 10 shots in net.
