LEWISBURG, Pa. - Just one week after narrowly defeating Slippery Rock in overtime, the Bison women's water polo team made it definite this time, handing the Rock an 8-3 loss in the first game of the Bucknell Invitational on Saturday, February 23.
Sophomore Kelly Hofstetter (Scotts Valley, Calif./Harbor) continued her offensive onslaught, scoring four of Bucknell's eight goals in the contest. The Orange and Blue jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the first period, due to two Hofstetter scores and one from freshman Cody Keffer (Berkeley, Calif./Berkeley). BU led 5-1 after two periods of play, before going scoreless in the third. Slippery Rock could not capitalize, however, putting only one ball in the back of the net in the frame to get within three, 5-2. Bucknell put the game out of reach with three more goals in the fourth quarter.
Junior Lindsay Chesterfield (Kingston, Pa./Wyoming Valley West) had a solid performance in net, recording a season-high 14 saves, while allowing just three goals.
Bucknell improves to 2-3 overall and will face George Washington at 8:00 p.m. this evening.
