PRINCETON, N.J. - The Bucknell women's water polo team fell to 1-3 on the year after dropping its final two games at the Princeton Invitational. The Bison lost to 15th-ranked Michigan by a score of 20-6, before falling to Massachusetts, 8-6.
The nationally ranked Wolverines were more than the Orange and Blue squad could handle, holding them to just six goals. Sophomore Kelly Hofstetter (Scotts Valley, Calif./Harbor) led the team with three goals and two assists, while senior Adrienne Schober (Houston, Texas/Clearlake) tallied twice and assisted on one. Freshman Cody Keffer (Berkeley, Calif./Berkeley) had a solid game, recording three steals, two ejections drawn, while also scoring once and assisting on one goal.
Against Massachusetts, the Bison trailed 5-2 at halftime and 8-4 after three quarters. The Bucknell squad turned things up defensively in the fourth quarter, holding the Minutemen scoreless to get within two, 8-6, but the early deficit was too much to overcome.
Keffer rounded out an impressive opening weekend with three goals, two assists, one steal and two ejections drawn in the contest.
Bucknell is 1-3 overall and will host the Bucknell Invitational on Saturday and Sunday, February 23-24. The Bison face Slippery Rock in their first game at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday.
