LEWISBURG, Pa. - After continuing one of the most dominant stretches of his career last week, Bucknell senior forward Boakai Lalugba (East Orange, N.J./Essex Catholic H.S.) has earned his second straight Patriot League Men's Basketball Player of the Week citation, the league office announced on Monday.
In two games last week - a 71-67 loss to Canisius and a 57-54 win over Saint Francis (Pa.) - Lalugba averaged 22.5 points and 13.0 rebounds. He scored 24 points and set career highs with 16 rebounds and four steals in the win over the Red Flash this past Saturday. He also registered 21 points and 10 rebounds in the Canisius contest.
In the win over Saint Francis, Lalugba made his first eight shots of the game, the second of which elevated him to the 1,000-point mark in his career. He is the 29th Bucknell player to reach that milestone, and he is only the 14th player in school annals to record 1,000 points and 500 rebounds.
Heading into Bucknell's home contest with FDU-Florham on Monday night, Lalugba is leading the Patriot League in both scoring (20.7 ppg) and rebounding (11.5 rpg).
The Bison are 3-3 on the season. Following the game with FDU-Florham, Bucknell will take an 11-day break for final exams before resuming its 2002-03 schedule at Penn State on Friday, Dec. 20.
