LEWISBURG, Pa. -- Fresh off a strong showing at the Red Auerbach Colonial Classic over the weekend, the Bucknell men's basketball team will play its home opener Tuesday night against Canisius. Tip-off is slated for 7:30 p.m.
Tuesday's game is one of five that the Bison will play in Davis Gym before the team moves next door to Sojka Pavilion, beginning with the Jan. 15 game against Lehigh. It also kicks off a three-game homestand that continues Saturday with Saint Francis (Pa.) (3:15 p.m.) and Monday with FDU-Florham (7:30 p.m.).
Bucknell advanced to the championship game of the Auerbach Classic this past weekend, where it nearly upset host George Washington. Backed by some red-hot 3-point shooting early in the game and the ferocious play of senior forward Boakai Lalugba, the Bison led for much of the contest only to fall 80-77. The Bison, who made 9 of 11 3-point attempts in the first half, received a career-high 34 points and 13 rebounds from Lalugba, who was named tournament MVP.
The Bison topped Columbia 61-47 in the opening round, building on a 56-53 road win at Albany last Tuesday. Bucknell is 2-2 on the season.
Bucknell has never beaten Canisius in five tries. Last season in Buffalo, the Golden Griffins defeated the Bison 66-49.
Tickets still remain for all three home games this week. For more information, call 570-577-1000.
