Bucknell Volleyball Battles During 3-1 Loss

WASHINGTON, D.C. - On Saturday evening, the Bison fell 3-1 to first place Patriot League opponent American. Melanie Ghiz marked team-high 14 kills for the evening.
Bucknell started the match out with a struggle. The Bison fell in the first two games, 30-11 and 30-15. The Orange and Blue stepped out on the court after the intermission and fought back to capture a 30-28 victory in game three. In the final game of the evening, Bucknell did not stop fighting, but came up short 30-27.
"We showed a poor offensive and defensive production, but continued to battle throughout the match," mentioned head coach Cindy Opalski. "We beat ourselves with many unforced errors."
Ghiz led the team with 14 kills, while Breean Trapasso tallied 40 assists for Bucknell. Jennifer Wrigley and Chelsea Anderson marked 10 digs apiece during the match. Courtney Clark hit .444 against the Eagles, a team-high for the Bison.
The Bison now hold a 13-11 overall record and are 7-4 in the conference. During the Homecoming weekend, Bucknell will host Patriot League Conference foe Holy Cross on Friday, Nov. 8 at 7:00 p.m. in Davis Gymnasium. The Holy Cross match will be broadcast live on the Bison Sports Network on WMLP-1380AM and over the internet at www.BucknellBison.com. The action will be called by the "Voice of the Bison" Doug Birdsong. The Orange and Blue will also host Army on Saturday, Nov. 9 at 7:00 p.m.
