Bison Volleyball Sinks Navy Midshipmen, 3-0

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell women's volleyball was victorious over Patriot League opponent Navy, 3-0, on Saturday night and gave the Midshipmen their first conference loss of the 2002 season. Senior Melanie Ghiz grabbed 15 kills for the night and junior Brandi Trapasso marked high for the Bison in digs.
The Bison came to the court Saturday night with intensity in mind. Bucknell captured their first win in game one of the match, 33-31. Ghiz and Brandi Trapasso led the team in kills in the first game with five and four respectively. In the second game, the Bison came back to grab a 30-26 win over the Midshipmen. The Orange and Blue closed the match with a 30-22 triumph in game three.
Ghiz, who rose above the team, led the Bison when she marked 15 kills for the night. Junior Brandi Trapasso captured 16 digs and nine kills for Bucknell. Senior Jennifer Wrigley marked 11 digs, while junior Breean Trapasso averaged 11 assists in tonight's match. The team worked together to mark a total of 12 block assists.
The Bison now hold an 8-8 overall record and are 2-2 in the Patriot League. Bucknell will face Patriot League Conference opponent Holy Cross on Friday, Oct. 11 in Worcester, Mass. and then travel to West Point, N.Y. to face Army on Saturday, Oct. 12.
