LEWISBURG, Pa. - Senior co-captains Dan Blankenship and Boakai Lalugba combined for 45 points, but it was Blankenship's Blue team that prevailed 69-68 in an intrasquad men's basketball game Wednesday in Davis Gym.
Blankenship connected on 7 of 10 field goals and scored 19 points. Freshman Kevin Bettencourt scored 15 points for Team Blue, and his backdoor layup off a pretty feed from rookie Charles Lee gave the Blue squad a 69-65 lead with 1:03 to play.
The White team made things interesting when Lalugba converted a three-point play with 49 seconds left, and then the White defense forced a shot clock violation at the other end. After a timeout with 12 seconds remaining, Chris Rodgers penetrated and dished to Roland Webber on the baseline, but Webber's 12-footer rimmed in and out at the buzzer.
Brian Werner was the third Blue team member in double figures with 10 points. Blue shot 50.0 percent from the floor in the second half and rallied from a 36-32 halftime deficit.
Junior Matt Quinn joined Lalugba in double figures for White, logging 17 points on 5-of-10 shooting. Lalugba was 9 of 18 from the floor and 8 of 15 from the foul line, while also compiling seven rebounds and five steals.
Sophomore Chris Niesz of the Blue team led all players with 11 rebounds.
At halftime of the contest, the Bison players passed out candy to youngsters dressed in Halloween costumes.
Bucknell returns to game action on Thursday, Nov. 14, against Big Apple Basketball at 7:30 p.m. in Davis Gym.
