LEWISBURG, Pa. - Pam Lowie, a former standout on the University of Connecticut women's lacrosse squad, has been named the assistant women's lacrosse coach at Bucknell University, head coach Randall Flynn announced. Lowie becomes the first-ever top assistant coach since the program's inception in 1978.
A 2002 graduate of UConn, Lowie was a four-year starter with the Huskies squad. In three of her four years, she led the team in scoring, including a career-high 48 goals as a sophomore in 2000. The midfield/attack garnered All-Big East All-Star honors in her final two seasons, in addition to picking up IWLCA/U.S. Lacrosse All-America accolades as a senior.
"Bringing Pam on-board to work with our student-athletes is another positive step for the direction of the Bison women's lacrosse program," said John Hardt, director of athletics and recreation. "This allocation of additional coaching resources for new head coach Randall Flynn is indicative of the University's commitment towards the women's lacrosse program in helping to build on past successes as well as enhance our student-athletes experiences."
A co-captain in 2001-02, Lowie left the Storrs, Conn., school as the all-time career leader in points and goals, and the single-season record holder in points (54), goals (48) and free position shots (22). She was named the team's Most Valuable Player for the third consecutive year upon the completion of her final season.
"I am very excited to have such an accomplished Division I player on the coaching staff here at Bucknell," commented Flynn. "Pam's extraordinary knowledge of the game, coupled with her ability to interact and inspire the players as such a young coach, makes it a great learning environment for the team. It is obvious to me that Pam is very passionate about the game and this is proven by how the players respond to her with respect. There is no doubt in my mind that she will become an accomplished Division I coach in the future."
In addition to her accomplishments on the field, Lowie was also a member of the Big-East Academic Honor Roll, the UConn Athletic Directors Honor Roll, and the Dean's List. From 2000 to 2002, the sociology and political science major was a Big-East Academic All-Star and Scholar-Athlete selection.
