LEWISBURG, Pa. - Suzanne Scheef, a former head softball coach at Lindsey Wilson College in Kentucky, has been named an assistant coach at Bucknell University, head coach Janelle Breneman announced. Scheef will be primarily responsible for the pitchers on the Bison squad.
"Having been a successful pitcher herself, Suzy knows the proper mental and physical training needed to have success at this level," commented coach Breneman. "Great pitching is a major ingredient to any successful team and I am confident she will be able to develop our young pitchers, and fine tune and challenge our veterans, to throw to their potential."
Scheef began her collegiate softball experience as a pitcher on the Wayne State College softball team. While a member of the Wildcat program, the hurler threw a no-hitter against the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and also pitched in the AIAW Women's College World Series. She also spent a year playing on the Missouri Southern State College squad.
A physical education/coaching endorsement major, Scheef got her start in coaching at Wayne State where she served as an assistant coach. She followed that with assistant coaching stints at the University of Nebraska-Omaha and Missouri Southern State, before taking on the head coaching duties at Terril Community High School in Iowa.
After seven years of head coaching experience at the high school level, Scheef jumped back into the college game as the head coach at Lindsey Wilson during the 1995 season. From there, she went on to serve as the assistant for Southeast Missouri State University. While working with the Indians, the squad captured the Ohio Valley Conference Championship and had the third-longest winning streak in NCAA history at 32 games.
At Bucknell, Scheef will work with the Bison pitching unit.
