Bison Volleyball Tops Army, 3-1

WEST POINT, N.Y. - After sweeping Holy Cross on Friday night in Worcester, the Bucknell Bison completed their weekend road trip on Saturday night with a 3-1 victory over the Black Knights of Army. The Bison offense was again led by senior Melanie Ghiz, who tallied 17 kills, while senior Jen Wrigley and junior Brandi Trapasso each contributed 14 kills.
The Bison got off to a slow start, dropping the first game 30-23. In game two, a strong attack combined with stellar defense resulted in a 30-27 Bison victory. Bucknell came out even stronger after the intermission, claiming game three 30-25. In game four, the Bison would watch a 21-14 lead slip away before scoring three straight points to clinch the match with a 31-29 victory.
Junior Breean Trapasso set up the high-powered offense with 35 assists on the night. Freshman Chelsea Anderson marked the team high with 19 digs, while Brandi Trapasso chipped in with 15 and Wrigley added 14. In addition to being strong offensively with a .341 hitting percentage, Ghiz also totaled six blocks in the match.
The Bison now hold a 10-8 overall record and are 4-2 in the Patriot League. Bucknell will face Patriot League opponent Colgate on Friday, Oct. 18 in Hamilton N.Y. before traveling to Syracuse, N.Y. for a non-league tilt with LeMoyne College on Sunday, Oct. 20 at 2:00 p.m.
