Holy Cross Downs Bucknell Men's Cagers, 73-65

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Tim Szatko scored 22 points and pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds, leading Holy Cross to 73-65 Patriot League victory Wednesday evening in Davis Gym.
Bucknell dipped to 8-12 and 4-3 in the league standings while Holy Cross upped its record to 10-12 and moved into a tie with the Bison at 4-3 in league play. Both teams are now a game behind first-place American, which defeated Navy 67-66 in overtime Wednesday.
Boakai Lalugba paced Bucknell with a game-high 25 points on 12 of 15 shooting from the floor. Bryan Bailey added 15 for the Bison.
Holy Cross led by as many as 12 at 53-41 midway through the second half following a pair of free throws by Greg Richter. However, Bucknell pulled within four at 64-60 with 1:55 remaining after a fastbreak dunk by Lalugba capped a 6-0 spurt.
Jave Meade quelled the rally by making 1 of 2 free throws, and the Bison turned the ball over on their next possession. Meade made both free throws moments later, and when Bucknell missed three shots in the paint on its next trip, the comeback attempt was over.
The Crusaders made 9 of 12 free throws in the final 1:44 and 17 of 24 in the game.
Holy Cross took a 34-33 lead into the halftime break after a tight first half that featured five ties and seven lead changes. The low post duo of Szatko and Nate Lufkin combined for 21 first-half points for the Crusaders, while Bucknell benefited from five 3-pointers. Neither team led by more than five points in the half.
Holy Cross took control with a 15-4 run over a span of 7:39 early in the second stanza. Serravalle, hit a 3-pointer and an eight-foot leaner on consecutive trips to push the visitors' lead into double figures for the first time at 49-39 with 11:12 left. Meade capped the run with a layup at the 10:35 mark.
Lalugba scored seven straight points for Bucknell to make it 54-48 with 7:06 left, but four minutes later the lead was back to 10 on Szatko's baseline jumper.
Bucknell made its final surge of the night when Lalugba canned a 14-footer, Bailey made a steal and layup, and Lalugba dunked after a steal in the frontcourt.
Three other Crusaders joined Szatko in double figures. Serravalle had 17, and now had 998 career points. Lufkin finished with 13 and Meade 10. Holy Cross shot 51.0 percent from the floor and outrebounded Bucknell 39-29.
After shooting 54.2 percent in the first half, the Bison cooled off in the second half, making only 13 of 38 shots (34.2).
The Bison return to action Saturday afternoon at Lafayette, while Holy Cross visits Navy.
