Villanova Nips Bison Women's Volleyball, 3-2

VILLANOVA, Pa. - The Bucknell University women's volleyball team came from behind twice, but couldn't hold off a late rally from Villanova University, as the host Wildcats defeated the Bison 3-2 in a non-league match Tuesday evening.
With the loss, the Bison's record fell to 3-4. Villanova improved to 4-4.
Villanova won game one 30-19 before the Bison came back to knot the match at 1-1 with a 30-16 game two victory. The Wildcats used a 30-22 triumph in game three to go ahead 2-1, but again Bucknell would not go away, taking the fourth game 30-28. The Bison would go on to build a 14-10 lead late in the fifth game, but Villanova came back with a 6-0 run en route to a 16-14 win.
Senior Shannon Walker led the Bison with a match-high 24 kills while making just four errors on 52 attempts for a .385 hitting percentage. Sophomore Brandi Trapasso posted a match-high 18 digs for the Bison to go with 12 kills, while freshman Jackie Leahy and senior Whitney Williams also turned in "double-doubles" for Bucknell. Leahy recorded 10 kills and 11 digs, and Williams had 38 assists and 10 digs. Junior Jen Wrigley chipped in with a match-high four service aces.
The Bison will play their first home and league game of the season on Friday when they take on Lafayette beginning at 7 p.m.
