LEWISBURG, Pa. - John Fassel will return to the Bucknell football sideline this season as the Bison's receivers coach, marking his second tour of duty as an assistant under head coach Tom Gadd.
Fassel, the son of New York Giants head coach Jim Fassel, was a volunteer assistant at Bucknell in 1999 before heading to Amsterdam to coach in the World Football League. He served as the strength coach and receivers coach for one season in Amsterdam, then returned to the states and earned a master's degree in athletic administration from Idaho State University.
Following a brief playing stint with the Indianapolis Colts, Fassel came to Bucknell in 1999. A standout wide receiver at Weber State University, Fassel was released by the Colts during the final cut of the 1999 preseason.
A 1998 graduate of Weber State with a degree in exercise science, Fassel was a four-year letterwinner for the Wildcats, playing both quarterback and receiver.
While attending the Milford (N.J.) Academy, he spent the 1993 season serving as a community relations assistant for the Denver Broncos organization after sustaining a season-ending injury. He assisted the media relations staff and conducted tours of the Broncos' facilities.
Fassel's father and Gadd worked together at the University of Utah from 1985-89.
