Saratoga Springs, N.Y. -- Brad Tufts, a member of the Bucknell University administration since 1959 and an athletic department staff member for more than 30 years, has become the third winner of the Bob Kenworthy Good Person Award as chosen by the Eastern College Athletic Conference-Sports Information Directors' Association (ECAC-SIDA). The award was presented on Thursday, June 7, at the ESPN Awards dinner at the Holiday Inn in Saratoga Springs in conjunction with the 2001 ECAC-SIDA workshop.
Named in honor of long time Gettysburg College sports information director Bob Kenworthy, the Bob Kenworthy Good Person Award is presented to an exceptional person who through their actions shows the same respect for the profession, their fellow SID's, the media and community as has Bob Kenworthy, during his long and successful career.
A true professional who really enjoyed the business, Brad treated visiting SID's like a guest in his home. He was one of the most effective leaders of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-America program and has been an ambassador for the profession of sports information.
Tufts served as sports information director at Bucknell University from 1959-64 and worked in University Public Relations from 1964-1979 before becoming assistant director of athletics for public relations in 1980. He served as interim athletic director from 1999-2000 and also coached the women's golf team for the Bisons. He has also been chair of the Bucknell Athletic Hall of Fame committee and coached the men's golf team from 1967-1975, compiling a dual match record of 80-38.
A 1959, graduate of Colgate University, he is a past president of ECAC-SIDA, was vice chairman of the CoSIDA Academic All-America Committee and in 1990 was made an honorary Academic All-American by the organization. He received the Lester Jordan Award in 1998, the Irving T. Marsh Award in 1989, and most recently, Bucknell's Walter C. Geiger Award for Administrative Excellence.
ECAC-SIDA was founded in 1955 to support the sports information directors of the Eastern College Athletic Conference. Membership in the ECAC-SIDA is open to all sports information directors, conference information directors, public relations directors, athletic communicators and corporations that have a vested interest in the welfare of the organization.
The ECAC-SIDA is one of the nation's largest sports information director associations, with member colleges and universities ranging from Maine to North Carolina in Divisions I, II, III and all NAIA schools and junior colleges.
