LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell women's lacrosse senior midfielder Paige Brewster (Lambertville, N.J./Hopewell Valley) has received the 2001 Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Division I Community Service Award. The award was presented at the All-American banquet on Saturday, June 9, at Towson University.
The House Chairwoman of the Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority, Brewster has been involved in many activities on the Bucknell campus and in the Lewisburg community. A member of the Bucknell Brigade, she traveled to Nicaragua in January of 2001 to help with relief efforts to Hurricane Mitch victims. While in Nicaragua, she also helped to maintain the community's health clinic and improve living conditions.
Since the fall of her freshman year, Brewster has served as a tour guide with the Bucknell Office of Admissions. Commencing in the spring semester of her rookie year, she has been an active member of the Bucknell Athletes Against Drugs and Alcohol (BAAD) organization, participating in motivational outreach programs for area elementary schools. In addition, since the fall of 1998, Brewster has served as the student coordinator of the Bucknell Wilderness Experience, a pre-orientation program designed for incoming freshmen.
Over the course of the past year and a half, Brewster has extended her services to the Bison Abroad organization, assisting students in selecting an appropriate study abroad program, the Career Development Center, helping with the coordination of on campus interviews, and the Listening Post and Linntown Elementary School where she counsels fourth and fifth grade students on issues concerning family, friends and school.
In addition to her community involvement, Brewster was also a three-year starter for the Bison women's lacrosse team. During her career with the Orange and Blue, she scored six goals and added five assists while not missing a game the past three seasons.
The 2001 Bucknell women's lacrosse team finished the season 7-8, narrowly missing the first-ever Patriot League playoff tournament. The Bison ended the year on a four-game win streak.
