Bucknell's Top Student-Athletes Recognized at Senior Awards Banquet

LEWISBURG, PA -- Eighteen student-athletes, two Bucknell graduates, and Professor Tim Sweeney were recognized Tuesday evening at the 40th annual Bucknell University Department of Athletics and Recreation Senior Recognition Dinner.
Management professor Dr. Tim Sweeney was recognized with the ECAC Appreciation Award for his ten years of service as Bucknell's NCAA Faculty Athletics Representative. This award is presented each year to students, faculty, staff or friends of Bucknell for extraordinary contribution to the Bucknell department of athletics.
Patricia Sermon '79 and Homer W. "Skip" Wieder '58 were presented with the Alumni Athlete Achievement Award. The honor is bestowed upon former Bucknell athletes who have achieved success in their chosen professions. A tennis and basketball player at Bucknell, Sermon moved to Newark, N.J. following her graduation and began her career in city government. She is currently the director of the city of Atlanta's Workforce Development Agency. Wieder played basketball for the Bison and was the team captain in 1958. He served as the Director of Development at Washington & Jefferson for four years, and then began a nearly twenty-year tenure at Susquehanna University where he rose to Vice President for Development and Finance. In 1985, he became the Senior Vice President for Development for the Geisinger Health System, and continues in that capacity today.
The Ronald J. "Pete" Pedrick Award was presented to field hockey tri-captain Maura Higgs (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) and men's golf captain Ken Kosteva (Berwick, Pa./Central Columbia). This award is presented in recognition of demonstrated improvement and special contributions to Bucknell athletics over a four-year period.
Baseball outfielder Ian Joseph (Novelty, Ohio/West Geauga) and women's soccer midfielder Kristen Erb (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township) were the recipients of the Edward W. Pangburn Award. This honor is presented for sportsmanship, fellowship, and contribution to the University.
The Margaret L. Bryan Award and the Albert E. Humphreys Award are presented respectively to a female and male athlete for outstanding achievement in more than one varsity sport. This year's Peg Bryan recipient was Amanda Youmell (Weedsport, N.Y./Weedsport) for her contributions in women's cross country and track. Kevin Eiben (Delta, British Columbia/ Vancouver College HS) received the Albert Humphreys Award for his contributions in football and baseball.
The Robert A. Latour Service Award was presented to softball player Stephanie Morgan (Allentown, Pa./Dieruff) and men's water polo driver Kevin Permisohn (Silver Spring, Md./Silverbrook). This honor is presented for extraordinary service to Bucknell and local communities.
Volleyball player Brooke Bader (Elyria, Ohio/Elyria) and men's soccer midfielder Bill Epley (Franklinville, N.J./Delsea Regional) received the Bradley N. Tufts Award. This award is presented in recognition of exceptional athletic achievement and contribution to Bucknell athletics.
This year's Lee S. "Bud" Ranck Memorial Award was given to women's water polo forward Julie McLaughlin (Woodside, Calif./Menlo) and men's water polo driver James Miante (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck). This award is presented for outstanding spirit and contributions to the Bucknell athletic program.
Women's crew team member Jessica Smith (Apollo, Pa./Kiski Area) and football player Dave Evans (Kulpmont, Pa./Mt. Carmel) were the recipients of the Alvin E. Jackson, Jr. Memorial Scholar-Athlete Award. This honor is presented for outstanding academic and athletic achievement, and future promise as Bucknell alumni.
Mark Juelis (Westfield, N.J./Westfield) and Annie Richards (Pt. Pleasant, N.J./Lawrenceville School) were honored with the Bison Club Award for their respective contributions to the men's and women' lacrosse teams. This award is presented to the senior athletes who best exemplify the winning spirit of the University's athletic program.
Each year, the prestigious Christy Mathewson Award is presented to the outstanding senior athletes. This year's recipients were football and baseball player Kevin Eiben (Delta, British Columbia/Vancouver College HS) and women's swimming tri-captain Molly Lowe (Hamilton Square, N.J./Seinert).
