Bucknell Men's Track and Field Team in Competition at the IC4A Championship

PRINCETON, N.J. - Several members of the Bucknell men's track and field team competed at the 2001 IC4A Championship, being held at Princeton University, Thursday-Sunday, May 17-20. After three days of competition, the Bucknell men's competitors have proved quite successful.
The Bison were among the top six finishers in four different events, including the school record setting 4x100 relay team of sophomore Matt Solomon (Mifflinburg, Pa./Mifflinburg), junior Dave Gabriel (Sayre, Pa./Athens), and freshmen Doug Coen (Oakton, Va./Oakton) and Noel Powell (Tamaqua, Pa./Tamaqua Area). The foursome crossed the line in 41.33 for a sixth place finish in the trials. With the top-eight finish, the team advances to the finals on Sunday.
In addition, senior Shawn Mathews (Youngstown, N.Y./Lewiston-Porter) came in fifth in the discus throw with a toss of 160'07.00, senior Ryan Stairs (Somerset, Pa./Somerset Area) finished sixth in the hammer throw with a 189'10.00 and Powell place sixth with a long jump of 24'02.55.
Also competing on the men's side in the field was freshman Justin McKnight (Reedsville, Pa./Indian Valley) in the javelin, coming in 13th with a throw of 196'10.00. On the track, Gabriel and Solomon both ran the 100-meter dash, finishing 18th and 27th, respectively. Gabriel finished in a time of 10.93, while Solomon ran an 11.19. BU's final competitor on the men's team was sophomore Greg Costello (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mount Lebanon). Costello ran in the 5,000-meter run, crossing the finish line 25th in a time of 14:37.42.
The Bison will finish up competition on Sunday, May 20.
