LEWISBURG, PA - Sean McAloon, a 1999 graduate of Randolph Macon College and an assistant coach for the Yellow Jackets since 1998, has been named as an assistant men's basketball coach at Bucknell University.
McAloon succeeds Carl Danzig, who left Bucknell to become the head coach at the University of Scranton.
"Sean brings energy and enthusiasm to his work, and I think he will connect with our student-athletes in all areas," commented head coach Pat Flannery. "He's been part of winning programs as a player and a coach, and we look forward to having him join our staff here at Bucknell."
At Bucknell McAloon will work a lot with the offense and player development, and will assist with university relations by working closely with other contacts on campus. "The way our staff is set up, everyone has their hands involved in a lot of different areas. I think Sean will fit right in with that philosophy," stated Flannery.
McAloon comes to Bucknell following three seasons as an assistant at Randolph Macon, where his responsibilities included recruiting, scouting, floor and game coaching, and the supervision of the Yellow Jackets' strength and conditioning program. In addition, he assisted in the planning and execution of daily practices where he worked primarily with the team's post players.
In addition, McAloon has served as a camp instructor for the Randolph Macon summer camp, at the University of Kentucky summer camps, and at the U.S. Army Europe Reebok Basketball Camp in Germany.
McAloon, a native of Bonn, Germany, was a three-year captain of the Randolph Macon basketball team and was a two-time all-conference selection. During his playing days at the Ashland, Virginia, school, the Yellow Jackets went to the NCAA Tournament three times (1996, 1998, 1999). McAloon also played on the tennis team at Randolph Macon for two seasons.
A member of Theta Chi Fraternity, McAloon served as that organization's Standards Board President for three years.
Bucknell officially opens the 2001-02 season on November 16 when it travels to Central Connecticut State University to participate in the Mohegan Sun Classic with Brown, Vermont and the host Blue Devils. The Bison open the home portion of their schedule on December 6 when Cornell visits Davis Gymnasium.
