Lewisburg, Pa. --- Bucknell sophomore Lindsay Chesterfield (Kingston, Pa./Wyoming Valley West) has received the Subway Athlete of the Month Award for the month of April in Water Polo.
The award was announced at the monthly Bucknell Women's Sports Luncheon, held Monday, April 30. Sponsored by Lewisburg Subway, the luncheon recognizes one outstanding student-athlete from each Bucknell women's sport in season at that time. The other winners for the month of April, as selected by their respective coaches, were sophomore Khadija Shariff in Outdoor Track & Field, seniors Jessica Smith and Stephanie Sturm in crew, sophomore Brandi Porter in softball, junior Kristin Inglis in tennis, and sophomore Nicole Kallis in lacrosse.
Chesterfield is the starting goalkeeper for the women's water polo team at Bucknell. The only competition during the month of April for the water polo team was at the Southern Division Championships. The Bison won three out of four games and the only loss was to #14 Michigan, 11-6. In those for contests, Chesterfield was outstanding for the Orange and Blue stopping a total of 42 shots while only letting 32 into the net. Chesterfield started in all 31 contests for the Herd and recorded a 52.3% save percentage.
The Bison finished the season with an 18-13 record and narrowly missed the Eastern Championships after winning three of four at Southern's. Head Coach John Zeigler and his troops will return in 2002 after only losing four seniors to graduation.
