Softball Splits Second Day Doubleheader at Holy Cross

Worcester, Mass. - Holy Cross freshman Christine Palmeri (Wycoff, N.J.)pitched a complete game three hitter to lead the Crusaders to a doubleheader split in softball action today at Freshman Field. Palmeri struck out three, allowing just one run in the 2-1 HC victory.
In game two, Bucknell smashed 11 hits off of three Holy Cross pitchers, scoring five runs in the 5-2 victory. Sophomore Brandi Porter (Prospect Park, Pa./Interboro) scattered six hits to pick up the win for the Bison.
In game one, Bucknell got on the board first in the top of the sixth inning when freshman Angela Stackhouse (Muncy, Pa./Hughesville) roped a single to center which scored pinch runner Karen Langhauser (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) from second base with two outs. Holy Cross answered right back in the bottom of the inning when senior Jamie Olenoski (Shelton, Conn.) led off with a double. She came around to score on junior Lizz Curll's (Worcester, Mass.) single to center. The Crusaders took their first lead of the day when senior Julie Sees (Clifton, N.J.)ripped a double into the gap which scored pinch runner Amanda Stepp (North Hampton, Mass.) from first base. Palmeri then shut down the Bison in the seventh to record her fourth win of the season.
In game two, Holy Cross took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning when sophomore Alyssa Hayden (Monsey, N.J.) scored on an error by the Bucknell shortstop. The Bison then stopped any other Holy Cross momentum when they threw out Olenoski at the plate. Bucknell then came back with two runs in the top of the second as it took advantage of an HC error and recorded four hits in the inning.
Sophomore Jacqueline Trapp (Bloomfield, N.J./Bloomfield) singled to drive in one of the runs in the inning. Holy Cross answered back with a run in the bottom of the second on a sacrifice fly by senior Tiffany DeCoff (Danvers, Mass.). The Bison scored one run in the top of the third, one in the top of the fourth and one in the top of the sixth to round out the scoring.
Two of the runs were scored with two outs in the inning. Porter allowed just the two runs while striking out two in picking up her sixth win of the season.
Bucknell is in action next on Tuesday, April 17, when it hosts George Mason for a non-conference doubleheader beginning at 3:00 p.m. Holy Cross will next be in action on Thursday, April 19th when they host Rhode Island at 3:00 p.m.
