Track & Field Dominates The Income Tax Classic At Christy Mathewson Stadium

Lewisburg, Pa. --- The Bucknell men and women claimed first place in a scoring meet held at Christy Mathewson Stadium on Saturday. The Bison men posted seven first-place finishes and scored a team total of 209 points, outdistancing runner-up Lock Haven (140) by a large sum. The Bucknell women had seven first-place showings, and finished with 215 points, besting runner-up Lock Haven (134) by more than 80 points.
In addition to the seven event titles by the Bison men, two individuals and one relay placed on the school's all-time Top-10 performers chart. Freshman Noel Powell (Tamaqua, Pa./Tamaqua Area) won the long jump with a final mark of 23' 2 ?". This distance puts Powell in a tie for fourth on the Bucknell Top-10 performers chart. Powell rounded off his fine afternoon by also sliding into the tenth slot with his second place finish time of 10.99 in the 100-meter dash. Throwing the discus for the first time this season, senior Ryan Stairs (Somerset, Pa./Somerset Area) moved into tenth all-time with a toss of 153' 10" and a fifth place finish. The 4x100-meter relay team broke the all-time school record with a blistering time of 41.78.
The women had six individuals place on the all-time performances in chart. Junior Andrea Nyce (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) and freshman Maria Garcia (Providence, R.I./Hope) each set school records in their respective events. Nyce solidified her school record in the pole vault by clearing a height of 11' 8". Over on the west fields, Garcia broke the school record in the hammer throw with a toss of 175' 4". In the 800-meter run, junior LaTonya McSwain (Cleveland, Ohio/Hawken) moved into second all-time with a time of 2:12.43 while senior Laura Ryan (Blue Bell, Pa./Wissahickon) finished with a 2:14.62 clocking to move into fifth all-time. Junior Kim Zimbal (Ballston Spa, N.Y./Ballston Spa) who has been continually improving in the triple jump, took second place with a distance of 36' 5 ?" to move into seventh all-time slot. Rounding out the top-ten performances for the women was sophomore Charity Brady (Warren, Ohio/Warren G. Harding). Brady finished the 200-meter race in 26.12 and moved into the tenth position all-time at Bucknell.
The men's and women's track & field teams will compete next at Mount St. Mary's on Saturday, April 21, before heading off to the Penn Relays the next weekend, April 26-29.
