LEWISBURG, PA - Bucknell University cross country runner Becki Marshall (Montgomery, N.Y./Pine Bush Central) was selected to the 2000-2001 Verizon Academic All-District 2 University Fall-Winter At-Large Team. With her selection, Marshall is now eligible for national Verizon Academic All-America honors, which will be announced on Thursday, April 19.
It is the first such honor for Marshall, who was joined on the first team this season by Catherine Anderson (swimming) of Penn State, Traci Anselmo (field hockey) of Penn State, Suzy Catterson (swimming) of Maryland, Gillian Cote (gymnasitics) of Maryland, Jen Ecker (cross country) of UMBC, Michelle Guna (soccer) of Duquesne, Emily Mitchell (swimming) of Delware, Emily Oleksiuk (soccer) of Penn State, Brigid Sullivan (soccer) of Seton Hall and Carla Tagliente (field hockey) of Maryland. District 2 includes schools in the states of Pennsylvania, New Jersey, West Virginia, Maryland, Delaware and Washington D.C.
In order to be eligible for Academic All-America honors, an individual must be a starter or key reserve and carry a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20 or better. The team is selected by a vote of the district's CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America) membership.
Marshall was the top runner on head coach Art Gulden's women's cross country team for the second year in a row, leading the Bison to their third straight Patriot League title. The junior co-captain captured her second straight Patriot League individual title, crossing the line first on Lehigh's Goodman Campus Course in 21:15.3.
At the Pre-NCAA Meet she finished 69th, and at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regionals at Penn State she was ninth, narrowly missing an individual selection to the 2000 NCAA Cross Country Championships. She capped her season with a second-place finish at the ECAC Championships to lead Bucknell to the team title.
In addition, Marshall was selected as the Patriot League's Scholar-Athlete in Women's Cross Country for the second time in her career, and was named as one of the 10 females on the Patriot League's All-Decade Team. She is a Civil Engineering major at Bucknell with a 3.75 GPA, and is a member of the Dean's List and the Patriot League's Academic Honor Roll. She is a member of the Engineering Honors Fraternity.
