Softball Team Defeats Quincy, 4-1, for Sixth Win of the Season

FORT MYERS, Fla. - Bucknell scored two runs in the bottom of the third inning to take a 4-1 lead and hold on for the victory against Quincy on Thursday, March 15, at the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic in Fort Myers, Fla. With the win, BU improved to 6-3-1 on the year.
Bucknell got on the scoreboard early, scoring in the first inning. Sophomore shortstop Meredith Gill (Hampstead, Md./North Carroll) opened the inning with a triple to left centerfield. Two batters later, junior Kelly Dugan (Mt. Holly, N.J./Rancocas Valley) singled to right field to score Gill.
The Lady Hawks scored their lone run of the game in the top of the second inning, tying the ball game 1-1. The Bison responded with one run in the bottom of the frame, and two more in the bottom of the fourth inning to come away with the 4-1 victory.
The Orange and Blue, who stranded 11 base runners in the contest, recorded a season-high 11 hits. Gill and Dugan both finished the game 2-for-4. Gill had a triple and one run scored, while Dugan recorded her team-leading 11th RBI of the season. Also going 2-for-4 in the game was junior tri-captain Jenna Demetriades (Nesquehoning, Pa./Tamaqua).
Junior Lauren Potente (Ringwood, N.J./Lakeland) went the distance on the mound, allowing four hits while striking out three and walking one.
Bucknell is 6-3-1 and will face Marist at 6:00 p.m.
