Men's Tennis Team Improves to 2-0

HILTON HEAD, S.C. - The Bucknell men's tennis team improved to 2-0 on the year with a 4-3 victory over Quinnipiac at the 2001 Spring Tennis Classic on Hilton Head Island, S.C., on Wednesday, March 14.
The Bison dropped three straight singles matches before winning the final three, in addition to claiming the doubles point, on their way to the win. Senior Hayes Hopple (Wilton, Conn./Saint Georges School), playing at the fourth flight, defeated his opponent, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4. Also winning in singles action were number five player Scott Allen (Berwyn, Pa./Conestoga), 6-0, 6-1, and junior Lee Scarborough (Wilmington, Del./A.I. Dupont) at the sixth slot, 6-4, 3-6, 6-4. It was Scarborough's tight match that decided the outcome of the match.
In doubles action, the Bison duo of sophomore Todd Jacobs (Wayne, Pa./Conestoga) and senior Jeff Gould (Coram, N.Y./Newfield) won at the first flight, 8-5. Allen and Scarborough teamed up at the third doubles flight to post an 8-5 victory over their opponents and secure Bucknell the doubles point.
The Bison are 2-0 and return home from their spring break to face Franklin & Marshall on March 19 at 3:30 p.m.
