Softball Picks Up Second Win Of Season With 5-0 Victory Over Marist

FORT MYERS, Fla. - The Bucknell softball team picked up its second win of the season with a 5-0 victory over Marist on Tuesday, March 13, at the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic in Fort Myers, Fla.
Marist and Bucknell took a scoreless game into the top of the sixth. The Bison scored four runs on three hits in the sixth frame to take a 4-0 lead. Sophomore Meredith Gill (Hampstead, Md./North Carroll) got the inning started with a triple to left center field. Two batters later, junior Kelly Dugan (Mt Holly, N.J./Rancocas Valley) singled through the right side to score Gill. Freshman Angela Stackhouse (Muncy, Pa./Hughesville) advanced Dugan to second and senior tri-captain Charity Ford (Cogan Station, Pa./Williamsport) reached base on an error, advancing to third and scoring Dugan. The Orange and Blue onslaught was not finished as junior tri-captain Jenna Demetriades (Nesquehoning, Pa./Tamaqua) ripped a triple to right center field to score Ford and increase the lead to 3-0. After a walk to freshman Kristen Potts (Philipsburg, Pa./Philipsburg), Demetriades scored on a passed ball to put the Bison ahead, 4-0.
BU scored its final run in the top of the seventh inning when junior Lauren Titus (Hatboro, Pa./Upper Moreland) took a pitch to right center field for a lead off home run.
Junior pitcher Lauren Potente (Ringwood, N.J./Lakeland) went the distance for Bucknell, allowing six hits and striking out two for her first shutout of the season.
Bucknell improves to 2-1 overall and will face Radford at 4:00 p.m. this afternoon.
