Men's Indoor Track Team Has Nine Individuals Named To The PL All-League Team

Bethlehem, Pa. - The Indoor Track and Field All-Patriot League teams are chosen based on the athlete's performances at the 2001 Patriot League Championship. The winners and runner-ups of each event are named All-League. The Bucknell men had one relay team and five individuals named to the All-Patriot League team.
The men's 4x800-meter relay team finished second at the meet, behind Patriot League Champion's Army, with a time of 7:40.70. Their clocking at the league meet qualified the foursome for the IC4A Championship meet this weekend. Senior Matt Davis (Bay Head, N.J./The Peddie School), junior P.J. Ward (Mountaintop, Pa./Crestwood), and sophomore Eric Furst (Goshen, N.Y./Goshen Central) receive all-league honors for the second time in their careers. Freshman Aaron Hanlon (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon) garners all-league honors for the first time in his track career at Bucknell.
After finishing first in the triple jump and second in the long jump, senior James Hollins (Feeding Hills, Mass/Northfield-Mt. Hermon) makes the all-league team for the second consecutive year. Hollins leapt 47' 2 ?" in the triple jump to beat out his nearest competitor by more than a foot and a half. In the long jump, Hollins held the meet record with a distance of 23' 11 ?" on his final jump for 90 seconds before being outdone by a jumper from Colgate. His second place distance however was good enough to become the second longest jump in school history.
Senior Ryan Stairs (Somerset, Pa./Somerset Area) won the 35 lb. weight throw competition, which was actually held outdoors in Annapolis, Md. in cold and blustery conditions. He won the event with a toss of 58' 4 ?", two feet further than the second place finisher from Navy. Stairs garners all-league honors for the first time in his Bucknell career.
The Bucknell men's track team pulled the clean sweep in the 200-meter dash as junior David Gabriel (Sayre, Pa./Athens Area) and freshman Noel Powell (Tamaqua, Pa./Tamaqua Area) finished one-two in the event, respectively. Gabriel earns all-league honors for the second time as he won the 200-meter dash with a final clocking of 22.32. Completing the sweep for Bucknell, Powell finished second in the event behind his teammate with a time of 22.36.
Rounding out the all-league representatives from the men's indoor track team is sophomore Greg Costello (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon) who came away victorious for the Bison in the 3000-meter run. Costello won the 3K event with an IC4A qualifying time of 8:29.51 and garners all-league honors for the first time in his career.
The BU men's indoor track & field team finished second behind eight-time champion, Army. All nine individuals from Bucknell who garnered all-league honors will be competing this weekend in Boston, Mass. at the IC4A Championships in the Reggie Lewis Center.
