Women's Hoops Team Reaches 20 Wins with 80-64 Victory over Albany

ALBANY, N.Y. -- The 2000-01 Bucknell women's basketball team has become the first team in school history to reach the 20-win mark, defeating Albany, 80-64, on Saturday, February 24.
The Bison couldn't get the offense going in the first half, shooting a dismal 29.7% from the floor on 11 of 37 shooting. Bucknell led by as many as seven in the half, 22-15, with 6:10 to go, but a 10-2 run by the Great Danes put Albany ahead 25-24 with 4:02 left in the frame. The Orange and Blue mounted a 7-0 run to go ahead by six, 31-25, and then missed seven straight shots in the final 1:42 of the half to enter the locker rooms with a 31-27 advantage.
BU opened up a six point lead at the 16:47 mark of the second half but Albany put together a 15-6 run that spanned four minutes, to take over 46-43. A free throw by sophomore Molly Creamer (Mendham, N.J./West Morris Mendham) tied the game 46-46 with 9:50 to play and it was all Bucknell from there. The Bison capped a 14-0 run to go up by 11, 57-46, and made the most of free throw opportunities, hitting 14 of 15 in the final 3:07 to come away with the 80-64 victory. Bucknell improved its accuracy in the second stanza, hitting 63.2% of its shots to finish the game shooting 41.1%.
Creamer led all scorers with 23 points. The guard needs 17 points to become the first sophomore in school history to score 1,000 points. Freshman Desire Almind (Blairstown, N.J./North Warren Regional) finshed the game with 19 points, going 9-of-10 from the free throw line. Junior Kate Rounsley (Lock Haven, Pa./Lock Haven) went seven-of-seven from the line on haer way to nine points. She also pulled down a game-best nine rebounds, tying her career-high.
The Bison improve to 20-7 overall and are in action again at the Patriot League tournament at Navy on Friday and Saturday, March 2-3. Bucknell, the second seed for the third year in a row, faces number seven Colgate at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
