LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Patriot League announced its All-Decade Women's Tennis Team today and one former Bucknell University women's tennis player was among the 10 players honored as members of the squad.
The team includes student-athletes from the inception of the league in 1990 up and through the 1999 season. A committee consisting of head coaches, institutional sports information liaisons and administrative liaisons conducted team selection for each of the 20 Patriot League sports.
Julia Diaz (Towson, Md./McDonogh School), a 1995 graduate of Bucknell, was the only Bison honored on the All-Decade Women's Tennis Team. Diaz, who missed her entire junior season with a knee injury suffered in the preseason, graduated as the most successful number one singles player in Bucknell history. She posted a dual-match singles record of 10-6 as a senior, a 9-3 mark as a sophomore, and an impressive 11-2 record as a rookie in the fall of 1991. As a freshman, Diaz went 6-0 in Patriot League matches and entered the league championship as the top seed.
In doubles action, Diaz posted a career record of 26-6 through three seasons. Her freshman year record stood at 7-2 overall at the number one doubles flight, and she went 4-3 as a sophomore in doubles competition. As a senior, Diaz teamed up with Kristina Lutter to go 17-2 at the number one spot, in the process earning them a place on the All-Patriot League Doubles Team.
Throughout her career, Diaz was a member of two Patriot League championship teams (1992 and 1994). In addition, the 1991 squad still holds the Patriot League record for most wins in a season (16) and most consecutive dual match wins (15).
