Bucknell Men's and Women's Track & Field Teams Complete Conference Championships In Annapolis

Annapolis, Md. - The Bucknell men's and women's indoor track & field teams finished in second place this afternoon at the Patriot League Championship meet. The women, who had won the three previous championships, finished in second to Navy who won its first indoor conference title. Highlight of the afternoon for the women's team was junior Stephanie Bango (Smethport, Pa./Smethport) being named the women's track athlete of the meet. Bango was a dual winner in the 400-meter and 800-meter runs. She won the 400-meter run with an ECAC qualifying time of 57.07 and crossed first in the 800-meter in 2:17.77. Her time in the 400-meter run is the second best time in BU history. Bango also was the anchor leg in the Patriot League champion 4x400-meter and 4x800-meter relay teams.
Also breaking records during the final day of competition was junior Becki Marshall (Montgomery, N.Y./Pine Bush Central) in the mile (5:06.56 - 10th AT), and freshman Jamie Lilien (Hillsdale, N.J./Pascack Valley) in the 55-meter hurdles (8.44 - 3rd AT). The women's 4x400-meter relay team had the tenth fastest time on the BU charts at 3:55.16 and the 4x800-meter relay at 9:12.97 is eighth all-time. In the triple jump, junior Andrea Nyce (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) leaped 36' 11 1/2" to move her up to seventh on the Bison all-time charts.
Sophomore Brian Klotz (York, Pa./Dallastown Area) was a bright spot for the men's team as he moved into fourth all-time in the 400-meter run with a time of 49.76 and fourth place in the event. After a strong performance the day before in the long jump, senior James Hollins (Feeding Hills, Mass./Northfield-Mt. Hermon) won the triple jump and ten points for the men with a leap of 47' 2 1/2".
The indoor track teams will now have some time off to prepare and train for the ECAC-IC4A Championships to be held in Boston, Mass. on March 3-4. Those individuals on the Bucknell team who have marks or times that qualify for this meet will be in attendance.
