Bison Track & Field Teams Perform Well at the Blue & Orange Open

LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell University track & field teams registered several outstanding performances at the non-scoring Blue & Orange Open this afternoon in the Gerhard Fieldhouse.
Bucknell's women's team put forth a dominating overall performance, winning 11 out of the 16 events that were contested. Sophomore Erin Lee placed first in the 20-pound weight throw with a mark of 44'8 ?", the 10th-best throw in school history, while senior Andrea Nyce won the pole vault for the second meet in a row, as she cleared 11'4."
Also picking up individual victories for the Bison were freshman Jennifer Marsh in the mile (5:35.10), senior Stephanie Bango in the 400m dash (57.55), freshman Amy Calvo in the 800m run (2:22.41), freshman Rehana Lanewala in the 200m dash (26.18), freshman Tolulope Fayanjuola in the 55m dash (7.49), senior LaTonya McSwain in the 500m dash (1:16.99) and sophomore Jennifer Malcolm in the 3,000 meter run (11:24.22).
Fayanjuola broke into the school's top-10 list in both the 55m dash and the 200m dash, and Lanewala cracked the top 10 in the 200. Fayanjuola's time of 7.42 in the 55m dash trials was the sixth-fastest mark in school history, and she also recorded the sixth-best time on BU's top-10 list in the 200 with a 26.28 clocking. Lanewala's winning time of 26.18 in the 200 was the fifth-fastest performance ever at Bucknell.
In the relay events, Bucknell's women's team placed first in both the distance medley relay and the 1,600m relay. Bango, Calvo, McSwain and junior Theresa Dennis teamed up to win the DMR by over a minute, as the foursome cruised to victory in 12:19.39. Running on the triumphant 4x400 relay team were junior Edwina Bourn, freshman Kiley MacDonald, junior Nicki Piper and Lanewala, posting a winning time of 4:00.77.
Sophomore Noel Powell led the effort on the men's side, winning the long jump (22'9 ?") and the 200m dash (22.43) for the second week in a row. Other Bison who placed first in their respective events were senior Evan Honeyfield in the mile (4:30.72), sophomore Thomas Prochilo in the 800m run (1:56.78) and graduate student Kevin Weatherill in the 3,000m run (8:58.02).
Freshman Ryan Newberger was also impressive for the Bison in his second collegiate meet. He finished second in the 200m dash in 22.56, the fifth-best time in school history.
Both teams will take over a month off from competition before hosting the Gulden Relays on Jan 11-12.
