Bison Men's Hoops drops heartbreaker to Albany, 51-50

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Rhasheed Peterson scored a team-high 15 points off the bench, and Albany rallied to defeat Bucknell 51-50 in non-league action Wednesday evening in Davis Gym.
With the score tied at 49-49 with eight seconds left, Albany's Joe Vukovic made a pair of free throws to give the Great Danes a 51-49 lead. Chris Rodgers had an opportunity to tie the game for Bucknell after getting fouled on a drive to the basket with 1.6 seconds on the clock, but missed his second shot, after sinking the first. Boakai Lalugba grabbed the offensive rebound, but was unable to get a shot off at the buzzer.
Bucknell trailed 49-46 before Jordan Hardenbergh drilled a three-pointer from the right corner with 17 second left. The Bison led by as many as seven points in the second half, but endured a span of 10:36 without a field goal. Albany went on a 22-10 run over a 14-minute span to take a 44-39 lead with 3:53 to play.
Lalugba scored a game-high 18 points to go with 11 rebounds for his second double-double of the year.
Bucknell enjoyed its largest lead of the night at 10-2 6:39 into the game. But Albany erased the deficit with a quick 9-0 run. The Bison led 24-18 at the half.
Will Brand added 12 points for Albany, and E.J. Gallup chipped in with 11 points and eight rebounds. Albany won its first game of the year after five straight losses. The Great Danes picked up their first road win since Jan. 6 of last season, snapping an eight-game road losing streak.
The Bison (1-6) return to action on Tuesday for a non-league match-up UMBC.
