WASHINGTON, D.C. - Sophomore Savannah Rennels scored her team-leading 10th and 11th goals of the season, leading the Bucknell University women's soccer team to a 3-1 non-league win over Howard University in the Bison's final 2001 regular season match.
Bucknell bumped its record to 10-6-0 with the win, matching the team's highest victory total since 1995. Howard fell to 10-7-0.
The Bison took a 1-0 lead into halftime after Rennels converted a header off a corner pass from senior Anna Hall 11:26 into the opening stanza.
Rennels gave Bucknell a 2-0 advantage when she blasted a shot from the left wing into the upper right corner of the net just 1:40 into the second half. Howard cut the lead to 2-1 in the 64th minute, but junior Tara Utchel answered for Bucknell just over five minutes later when she recorded her first tally of the season on a breakaway.
Junior Laurie Purse went the distance in goal for the Bison, and saved three shots to pick up her 10th win of the season.
Bucknell will travel to Navy on Friday to participate in the Patriot League tournament. The third-seeded Bison will face No. 2 seed American at 3:30 in the opening round, while No. 1 Navy and No. 4 Lafayette square off at 7 p.m. on Friday in the other semi-final.
