LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell nose guard Adam Lord (Troy, N.Y./Troy H.S.) continued his brilliant junior season in last week's 21-14 Patriot League victory over Holy Cross, and he was rewarded for his efforts with his first career Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week citation.
Against the Crusaders the 6-0, 260-pound Lord was in the opponent's backfield all day long. He finished with a team-high nine tackles, including seven solo hits, three tackles for loss and two quarterback sacks. Lord was part of a defensive front that limited Holy Cross to a measly 16 yards rushing on 21 attempts and only 211 total yards, 131 below its season average.
The Bucknell defense currently ranks fifth nationally in rushing defense (80.9 yards per game), ninth in scoring defense (15.1) and 11th in total defense (266.3).
A Second-Team All-Patriot League selection last year and a leading candidate for first-team honors this season, Lord has 37 tackles in 2001, 14 of which have come behind the line of scrimmage. He leads the team and ranks sixth in the conference in sacks with five.
Bucknell's victory over Holy Cross last week improved its record to 6-2 overall, 4-1 in the Patriot League, and set up a battle for first place with seventh-ranked Lehigh (8-0, 5-0) this Saturday at Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium.
