Bison Volleyball Falls 3-0 to American

Judit Szekelyhidi and Eneida Muzhaqi recorded a match-high nine kills apiece, and American University ran its record to 19-2 and 11-0 in the Patriot League with a 3-0 win over Bucknell in volleyball action this evening in Davis Gym.
The Eagles' win was also its 14th in a row. The loss dropped Bucknell's 2001 record to 10-9 and 6-5 in league play.
Senior Shannon Walker paced the Bison with a team-high eight kills on .273 hitting, while senior Whitney Williams added 17 assists. Sophomore Brandi Trapasso posted a team-high seven digs.
The Eagles put together a 10-0 surge in the opening game to turn a 7-5 deficit into a 15-7 lead. American outscored Bucknell 15-11 the rest of the way for the 30-18 victory. In game two, American jumped out to a 15-4 lead before going on to win 30-16. The Bison came back strong in the third game, and trailed just 24-20 late in the set. But the Eagles scored six of the last eight points and came out on top, 30-22.
American's Sabrina Vasconcelos recorded a match-high 29 assists, while teammate Natalie Hand led all players with 10 digs.
Bucknell returns to Patriot League action on Friday when it travels to Worcester, Mass. to take on Holy Cross at 7 p.m.
