LEWISBURG, Pa. - First-year Bucknell University head coach Kevin Donner was named as the Patriot League Women's Cross Country Coach of the Year today following the Patriot League Cross Country Championships.
Donner was honored with the award, which was voted on by other Patriot League coaches, after leading the women's team to the Patriot League Championship at Colgate University. The Bison finished with a 28-point team total, and defeated their nearest competitor, Army, by 49 points.
Donner's women's team also enjoyed an outstanding regular season in 2001, highlighted by first-place performances at the Bucknell Gulden Duals and the Lock Haven Invitational. The Bison turned in a very respectable second-place finish out of 39 teams at Lehigh's prestigious Paul Short Run, and took 17th among 37 schools at the Pre-NCAA Meet.
After a highly-successful six-year stint at St. Francis University (Pa.), Donner replaced the legendary Art Gulden as the Bucknell men's and women's head track & field and cross country coach in July. While at St. Francis, Donner led the Red Flash to five Northeast Conference championships. He earned Mid-Atlantic Region Men's Cross Country Coach of the Year honors in 2000 after leading the SFU men's cross country team to a No. 26 national ranking.
Donner and the Bucknell cross country teams will travel to Lehigh University on Saturday to compete in the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional meet.
